Basic Learning Systems was founded in 1980 in response to a growing demand from diverse businesses for programs to motivate, inform, and train their employees. Marsha Freedman, president of BLS,  is an interpersonal and presentation skills expert, who holds a bachelor's degree in education and a master's in mass communication.

BLS wants to "target your professional growth" with easy-to-use, reasonably-priced e-workbooks and soft skills training kits in 16 topics, with a focus on business writing, interpersonal communication skills (dealing with difficult people, effective communication, team building, customer service and more) and presentation skills. Customized, on-site training is available, as well.
